OK, thanks for the heads up. Do Sky update their router occasionally - BT seem to update the HomeHub from time to time. __________________
If you mean the physical device, then yes they do update the routers, both the Sagem and the DG934G are updates on the original DG834GT. Whether they were actual updates or a way to save money is a matter of opinion. There was a rumour that they were going to issue N class routers, but so far nothing has come of it.

The router firmware is updated at infrequent intervals.

While with BT, if you renewed the contract, they usually gave you the latest router free of charge - do Sky do that? All the signs so far are that we will be staying with Sky - no problems as of yet.

No, a new router is around 25, can't remember the exact figure. They will only replace it for free if the last one is under warranty or you can play the "If you don't replace it we'll leave" card, however that might backfire :P

How is your speed so much greater than mine, yet we both come from the UK?

And why is my ping at Pingtest.net so much faster?

Edit: London wasn't an option at Pingtest for some reason.

      Re: Which Wireless Adapter?

Interesting: the signal is stable at four bars and has been all day. The only thing that's changed is we're having some decorating done, so the mirror that used to be above the router has been moved - could that have been affecting the signal somehow?

Mirrors can reflect wireless signals just as well as they can reflect light so yes.

      Re: Which Wireless Adapter?

Are you sure this might not be something to do with my wireless adapter as well? The router is behind a few things that have been left there for decorating purposes, and since they've been there, my internet has been running quite slow. The thing is, my nephew who was gaming online with Xbox 360 didn't experience one bit of slowdown or lag, or connection drop-out. His Xbox 360 has a wireless adapter that cost 50 - mine was about 15.

My speedtest result has dropped a little bit, but it's still almost 4mbps. Nephew's adapter has its own antenna - are adapters like that usually stronger?

      Re: Which Wireless Adapter?

It's possibly another case of you get what you pay for, but when the wireless adapter costs nearly twice what the router does you begin to wonder the point
