      Netgear wg111t & Windows 7

Hi, I have just got a new PC with Windows 7 installed. After trying and failing to use my Netgear WG111T USB wireless adaptor I discovered that I needed to update the drivers before it would work with Win7. I have done that and now it works. Well, it works in that I can see and try to connect to 3 of my neighbours' connections (I can't connect as I don't know the passwords!) but I cannot see my own connection - which is working as everything else I have (XP or Vista) can connect, either with internal wireless or using the same wireless adaptor.

I have tried changing the SSID and stopping/restarting the wireless WLAN finder service but to no avail.

      Any ideas please?

Are you using the netgear software? If so switch it off and disable it then use the normal windows one.

Did you try to change the wireless channel on your router?

      Re: Netgear wg111t & Windows 7

This is a different PC - it hasn't got the Netgear software installed as it isn't compatible with W7. However, I can install the USB adaptor by using the updated drivers and as I say, it works but won't see my connection.

I have changed the channel on the router but haven't had a chance to test the old PC yet so don't yet know if it sorted that issue. Connection still works with laptops. Will update that thread when I've tested it.

Bit of extra info I noticed isn't in my profile bit - my router is the white Netgear DG834GT. I wondered if that might be the issue - maybe my neighbours have different routers - but I have connected via ethernet cable and that works so I assume it is still something to do with the adaptor.

WG111T installation - Windows 7 Forums might be useful, the adaptor doesn't have Win 7 drivers but the Vista ones should work.

Thanks, I have tried that - I've got the adaptor working both with and without the Netgear software, but either way it will only see my neighbours' connections but not mine.

The white Netgear normally has a better wireless performance than the black ones, so it is unlikely to be the router, especially if your other machines are picking it up OK. Have you ticked to show SSID and checked that up have not set a Wireless Station Access list?

You could try resetting the router, but if you have any personal settings such a ports forwarded, click the Backup Settings link under Maintenance in the settings and save your settings to your PC. Then push a biro point in the reset hole on the rear and hold it there until the lights flash. Remember this will also revert you to the default Wireless key.
