      Belkin F5D7050 V4 Connection drops with windows7

Since upgrading to windows 7 , when ever i turn on the PC it normally takes me between 15 to 30 mins to get a reliable internet connection. this normally involves numerous tries by windows to fix the problem unplugging the device a hundred times! the funny thing is this is always when i turn the PC on. once a reliable connection established the thing will sit there all day without dropping. the device works fine on an old xp laptop and was fine under vista. only since the windows 7 upgrade. tried changing channels but still no good. tried the latest drivers from the belkin site.

i'm really stumped now and highly frustrated......

can anyone share how it would be possible to fix this issue. thanks in advance.

Have you looked for any updated wireless drivers for your card?

Is it ok using a wire?

What security are you using? Does it still happen when you turn the security off?

Are the drivers you obtained for Win 7? Are you using the Windows connection manager?

yes, using the latest drivers from the Belkin site for the device that are according to them windows 7 compatible. I have also tried putting these into vista compatibility modes still no good.

I have turned security off and rebooted the computer, so far the computer has connected and has not dropped which has never happed under windows 7.

So it could be related to the security settings, what other options have i got as don't want to leave the router un secured.

p.s drivers are up to date, and using the windows 7 connection manager.

thanks so far, some progress has been made.

If it will not connect properly with WPA, try WEP with 128 bit encription. This is not as strong as WPA but is still fairly good. You can also use the Access list to stop other PCs connecting.

Set up for wep 128-bit and has today for the first time ever connected and stayed connected right from the OFF. thank you for all your help peoples.

What would be causing the WPA failure, the router or the wireless adapter device. I would prefer WPA encryption if possible. If this means buying a new wireless adapter then no problem, but do not want to buy one for the sake of it.

      any ideas

Re: Belkin F5D7050 V4 Connection drops with windows7

I think it is most likely to be a compatibility issue with the adapter and Win 7. If it worked OK with XP, that would appear to support this.

You are certain you are using the correct driver? The 4xxx one near the bottom of this page Belkin : Support : F5D7050 Wireless G USB Network Adapter - Drivers

As you say it is a bit extreme replacing the adapter when that may not help. Do you have a friend you could borrow one from, just to see if it would work ?

Re: Belkin F5D7050 V4 Connection drops with windows7

I have a belkin router that will not work with wireless on windows 7 PC's.

I moved over to another one and no problems.

I think that wireless and Belkin do not get on well under windows 7.
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!
