Question Can I use a Belkin N instead of supplied SAGEM router?

Sky supplied us with a sagem router in May 09 when we moved into our house & signed up for sky.

Over recent months our kids have got more and more frustrated with the lack of coverage and have camped their x-box in our office (as the only place they can pick up the wireless signal).

Our youngest wants to connect his Wii in another room but Sagem signal not strong enough, and we'd like to use the laptop in the living room and send the x-box back to our eldests bedroom (again not strong enough).

There's no central point we can move the Sagem to (we have tried) and we bought a Belkin N on xmas eve, but had trouble with username/password.... and subsequently found this site (which we have found very helpful - thanks!!) but having read all the info on the threats from sky about plugging in a new router, we're now wondering if we should return the Belkin N to Currys & buy an N router only (no modem).

      What do you guys think?

Any help/opinions much appreciated, please speak slowly... I'm not too well up on all this !

      Thanks

Yes you can use the belkin N router without breaking skys T&C's
You set the belkin up as a switch. That is to say use your sagem router and an Ethernet cable to the belkin.
You would need to make some changes in both routers.
You would need to disable the DCHP in the belkin so as it takes ip from sagem very basically.
Search on here for more info into the fine points.
Alternatively buy a set of home plugs

Obviously you logged into the router and changed channels for the wireless. What channel were you on and what are you using now?

Take the router back and buy some homeplugs, they will work much better for the x-box and will suffer no wireless interference, you can even get one with a built in wireless point for the laptop which you can move around as needed.
