Belkin USB adaptor / Windows 2000

I have a laptop with a Belkin USB adaptor and Windows 2000. Broadband is fine via ethernet and cable, but keep disconnecting with wireless adaptor.

Spoke to support at Sky and after over an hour I was told to call Microsoft. this will be a chargeable call and I presume will be expensive as the man from Sky told me to "keep it short when you speak to them" !

As a new customer, I feel quite let down - I feel if Sky supply broadband then they should install and configure it (Virgin and BT do !) as part of their "installation".

Any help or tips would be appreciated, even from anyobody at Sky (if they read this forum !).

Its going to be a Merry Christmas if I keep getting moaned at for this not working!

Sorry but it's not Skys problem if your Belkin device is not working correctly or not responding correctly to things being done to it. Unfortunately in the 2 years I was with tech support we saw many many issues with Belkin devices. Did they change your channel? if so what channel is the router on at the moment and did they turn off the belkin utility and get Windows in control of it?
Did they give a reason why they told you to call MS and not Belkin as it's Belkins role to support the adaptor and not MS unless they feel this issue is with your windows installation?

Windows 2000 was never that great when it came to certain things and I would expect now that MS will tell you that support for windows 2000 has now been withdrawn.

Belkin may give you some help but I would expect them to say that their not aupporting win 2000 anymore.

Why Sky should say go to MS rather than Belkin is rather baffling though.

Try going here and downloading the latest driver for your adapter. -
      Belkin : Support : F5D7050 Wireless G USB Network Adapter - Drivers

Note you must use the correct version and the latest, V5xxx does not seem to have support for Win2000. This may be your problem.

Sky will only support the adapter they sell, the overpriced Netgear.

Re: Belkin USB adaptor / Windows 2000

Coming to think of it, I don't think I've ever had anyone with win 2000 with wireless issues in, like, 2 years! I believe win 2000 does not have any windows wireless utility and thus needs to use the belkin utility to configure your wireless connection. We'll need a bit more info.

When it 'disconnects', can you view any networks in the list or do they all disappear? Is it just your sky network [skyxxxxx] that disappears from the list?
