Network/internet security settings changed, now no wireless

      Hi,

Not sure where to start - boyfriend has managed to change soem network settings on my Sony Vaio, sadly not sure what ones, and now can only get the internet if i connect my ethernet cable. If I disconnect it, and go to "connect to a network" against my network I have the error "the settings saved on this compter for the network do not match the requirements of the network"

Can anyone advise what he's done? He was trying to lower the security so he could use my connection for his ipod touch. I'm reasonably IT literate, but am stumped on what he's changed, and really don't want to mess it up any more!

Only way of fixing it I can think of is to try uninstalling the router and reinstalling the network, but think he may have changed settings on laptop and not network!

      HELP!

      Many many thanks in advance

log into the router by going to web page 192.168.0.1

      username: admin
      apssword: sky

have a look at the wireless settings in there, then re-connect your laptop wirelessly using the same settings.

The link below is for the old sky netgear router, but it should be the same principle.

Configure your Sky Netgear Router's Wireless Settings

Re: Network/internet security settings changed, now no wireless

He may have changed the settings in the router to WEP and left your Laptop with WPA. The easiest way to find out is, using the cable to connect, open the router settings, 192.168.0.1 in the address bar, username admin password sky, click the link at the top for the Wireless settings. Under Security options, check what encryption is being used. If it is WEP, change it to WPA-TSK. Check the key that is entered, if you have not changed it, it will be 8 capital letters. Click the Apply button, disconnect the ethernet and try to connect by wireless.
