      Asking for help please.

      Hi there,

I have a Acer Aspire 5720 laptop vista (which apparently has wifi) and have the Sky Sagem router, I have not been able to access wireless internet since I had signed up with sky a year ago.

I'm not really in the know about pc's, laptops, ports etc. So bare with me

Getting on the internet using the etherel cable no problem whatsoever.

In the propeties of the sky router the settings I have got is

Security type - no authentication, should this be something different
encryption type - WEP, again something different?

network security key - Everytime i type in the network key it's saying it should be either 5 or 13 keys. the network key i have got is 8?

I'm using avast internet security, would this affect my access? Although I do really think it's something to do with the security key.

Just wondering if anyone could give me a few tips as to where i'm going wrong?

      Re: Asking for help please.

As a start, go into the settings of the router and select the WPA-PSK button. For the WPA-PSK security encryption, use the default key. This will consist of 8 capital letters, no numbers. Remember to click Apply.

Go to your laptop, make sure the ethernet is disconnected and try to connect with wireless. You should be asked to enter a key, enter the same as the router. Check that it is your router you are trying to connect to by looking at the SSID. Make sure the wireless adapter is switched on in the laptop, there is usually a switch or special key to do this.

      What OS are you using?

Report back with the full error message you get, if any.
