      Re: wireless connection or not

Were you able to change to the Windows Manager?

It looks like it may be a firewall or other security issue. To rule this out, open the Run box and type msconfig press enter. When the application opens, on the General tab, tick the 'Load Startup Items' to deselect it. Reboot and see if you can connect. I would normally recommend Safe Mode with Networking, but wireless does not always work too well in this mode it should using this method. When you are done, open msconfig again to re-enable your start items.

      Re: wireless connection or not

The question about the Windows Manager refered to my post # 10, you will not find it in the System Configuration.

What happened when you tried disabling 'Load startup items', just saying 'nothing' does not give any clue to what is wrong. Did it attempt to connect, were there any error messages?

Uninstalling the adapter, then reinstalling it, usually clears any problems

      Re: wireless connection or not

There was no attempt to connect. just was asked to restart computer. I have reset the router and DLINK goes green, and i am receiving and sending bytes, connection good but still no home page. if I go to WEP instead of WPA-PSK or disable the security altogether there is no connection at all.
p.s. where will i find windows manager.
      cheers

Call me stupid but i can not find the above. The laptop is running XP Home Edition with Service Pack 1 if this makes any difference. There has got to be something not set right on the Router. I have put the correct MAC Address in the Router but laptop cannot connect to it. I just wish I could remember how I got it connected before.

That may be part of your problem, there were quite a few improvements made to wireless networking in Sp2 and again in Sp3. You should really update as there are also several security issues covered by these Sps.

There was no attempt to connect. just was asked to restart computer
I have just noticed this in an earlier post. You have to restart the PC for the changes to take effect. After you have done that, then try to connect. If you have not done this, give it a try.
