Limited connectivity - can't find ip address

      This is a strange one...

Re-installed xp and service pack 2 on my computer upstairs as it had a virus I couldn't get rid of.

Upstairs Computer up and running fine. However, installed my wireless adapter software and connected to my sky router ok, signal strength ok. But when I try to connect to the internet it says can't acquire ip address. I try the repair option in the settings on the network and it says it can't repair. It worked fine before i re installed windows.

The adapter is working fine as a managed to connect to my neighbours network and got the internet through that?
Also I know the router is ok as i have my downstairs computer connected to the internet via ethernet cable to the sky router.

And lastly i can connect to the internet on my laptop wirelessly through the sky router.

      Any suggestions??? Please!

I'd start off by looking at the TCP/IP settings for the problem adaptor. Find the adaptor in Network Connections and right click - from the drop down menu choose Properties and then highlight TCP/IP and chose Properties. Check that you have DHCP set to Automatic Aquire Address. Also check the encryption is set to WPA and you have the correct Key (all uppercase and no numbers by default).

Re: Limited connectivity - can't find ip address

      Hi,

      Still no luck.

My encrption is set to wep. It is connected to the network but just says limited or no connectivity and won't connect to the net.

I tried a different adapter and i have the same prob with that so it cant be the adapter?

I tried changing the network channel on the router but still the same prob?

The adapter will connect to my neighbours network fine and connect to the internet so i cant understand why i cant connect to my sky router on the net?
      Any suggestions please?

Re: Limited connectivity - can't find ip address

You could try giving it a manual address, do as DMS suggests but instead of choosing Auto, put in the following-
      IP address 192.168.0.100
      Subnet 255.255.255.0
      Gateway 192.168.0.1

      Preferred DNS 208.67.222.222
      Secondary DNS 208.67.220.220

      Click OK and close out.

You might need to reboot for the connection to be made.

Re: Limited connectivity - can't find ip address

      Hi there,

What software are you using to configure the adapter ?
Are you using windows or the adapters own software ?

Also tu rule out encryption why not remove it from the box and see if you can connect then .
