Any 54g adapter would be compatible with your router, so it should be fine, if the price is right

Sky only fully support the Netgear WG111T and WG111v2 - the best option because sky can definately help you if you have technical issues with it or problems getting connected.

Sky passively support other adapters which means if you call the Technical line then they will still do their best to help you but if they cant fix it or you have software issues then you will just be referred to manufacturer.

You'll get better internet responses if you use a LAN cable. WiFi won't effect your Internet connection directly but it does add a noticeable overhead to network speed due to encryption and error correction.

Isn't this because these are the ones they sell? A wireless adapter is a wireless adapter, no matter who makes it. The only difference is in the management software and the Netgear version is as flakey as they come. Much better using the built in Windows Management software, unless you are running a Mac or Linux of course, in which case you will get even less help from Sky.

The best advice to anyone having problems, is to install the adapter drivers only and allow Window to configure the connection. Forget about the makers software, unless your OS forces you to use it.

Re: which wireless adaptor do i buy

Yeah they are the wireless adapters that Sky sell. Sky dont really try and pressure customers into purchasing it from Sky though, I personally always advise people looking into going wireless to shop around before they make a decision.

Any wireless adapter should work but if it doesnt and its not a Netgear WG111T or Netgear WG111v2 then dont shout at Sky when they dont fix it for you and just refer you to manufacturer/place of purchase. Having said all this setting up wireless is a simple process and there shouldnt be any complications.

LAN is faster and more reliable by the way. The only reason i would recommend wireless is if your master socket is downstairs and your pc is upstairs(wireless is better than extension cables)

Re: which wireless adaptor do i buy

Given the choice, I would go for a PCI adapter -- always seem to offer better reception than USB.

There are also known overheating issues with some Netgear USB adapters.

Otherwise, I rather favour Netgear as a brand because their user forum is better than most.

I rarely differ with advice from Isitme, but I have almost always found manufacturer's software easier to use than Windows Zero Config for controlling wireless adapters -- Netgear's is intuitive (though a little memory greedy).

      I would use homeplugs personally.

      ^^^^^^^^
So would I! With a fixed PC Base, a wired connection is far more secure and reliable than wireless. I think there is a case for wireless when using a laptop/notebook, wires dangling from the unit can be cumbersome and annoying.

Re: which wireless adaptor do i buy

I would stay well away from netgear anyways as their customer support is by far the worse I have ever come across ever!

Currently I am battling with them to get a firmware update for my homeplugs so my Xbox 360 connects up with my media center PC again properly and it's like hitting your head against the wall but not so much fun.

But as others suggest homeplugs are the way to go (just don't use netgear ones)
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!
