Thumbs down Wifi Issues (lan works fine) Xp correct passkey

Hi all, here the facts of my issue, apologies from the outset if ths is a noobies schoolboy error, but due to the lack of a decent conection, I am posting via a usb modem from t-mobile and they are as fickle and demanding as your 1st/2nd/3rd wife put together!

Issue - Cant connect via WiFi on sky broadband (not sure of package as staying at friends who is clueless)

      Fact - sagem router
Fact - cat 5 cable into my laptop works perfectly
Fact - not much wrong with my laptop as I went round friends earlier who has sky broadband (albeit on netgear router) and I was able to connect without drama
Fact - I have correct passkey

Using XP Home sp2 wifi picks up sky and accepts passkey but cycles thro "aquiring ip address" and fails each time

used repair function and said could not renew IP address

used netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt and rebooted - no joy

kinda stuck now as Lan works but want to use wirelessly, cant connect to 192.168.0.1 via wifi but can via LAN.

For the record, primary user is using LAN to a Mac G3 or 4 and that works fine.

Have not re-booted router yet as dont know enough about the sagem/sky setup to know if this will trash the connection as I like lodging where I am and dont want to cause waves!!

      Help!

Have you tried the basics, ie changing channel number?

Manually assign IP addresses to the Wireless on the Laptop.

Disable the wireless security on both to see if you can get a connection. If you can, it is the security set-up that is wrong.

Manually accepting the passkey and it being the correct passkey are quite different issues. Ensure that the case is the same and that the number of characters is the same for both router and laptop.

      Regards,

      Felix

I would look at putting the key back in using caps to start with as suggested, the acquiring IP loop points to either lower case letters in use for the key or a channel issue.

Re: Wifi Issues (lan works fine) Xp correct passkey

      Hey Robsky,

Did anyone ever get a fix for this? I also have the same problems with a Sagem router - the wireless network connection disappeared. I rang sky and they sent me a new router. I searched for the wireless connection it was there, when I entered the WPA key the connection disappeared and stiil doesnt show up! Ethernet connection via cable works fine v frustrating! I had an electrician doing some work at the house but he didnt touch the phone line.
