What equipment do I need to extend system?

I currently have my Sky router plugged into my PC which is kept in a room at the back of my house. Unfortunately the wireless signal in my lounge is poor and makes laptop web surfing annoyingly slow.

What extra boxes/wires do I need so that ideally I could have an extra/boosted wireless signal in the lounge whilst still keeping the original Sky router plugged into the desktop pc. If 2 wireless transmitters are not possible then I'd prefer the desktop to be wired and the wireless transmitter to go in the lounge.

I currently only have the standard Netgear Sky wireless router, not sure which model but it is at least 12 months old if that helps. I am guessing I need a router with an 'ethernet in' connection, rather than just the 4 'outs' like the Netgear has.

      Any help much appreciated.

There are a number of devices you could buy but to be honest, if you're having problems sending wireless across the house then you'd probably find any form of wireless extender gave problems.

My recommendation would be to buy a pair of Homeplugs which will allow you to have a fast, high quality connection anywhere in the house that has a power socket. If you want your laptop to connect wirelessly (rather than plugged into the remote Homeplug) then they do a wireless version.

Edit: links given are illustrative and not a recommendation to use that particular supplier - shop around.

for a quick temporary fix until you can get homeplugs which is probably the best solution
try changing the router wireless channel number, from router setup page, sometimes a stronger signal can be found on differnet channels i prefer to use 11 or 13 as they seem to be more powerful in my set-up

I spent more then 1 year tring to inprove w-less signal
I finally did it ..... with a cat 5 cable

Fact is everithing in your house can disrupt the signal ( glass/ metal /walls) and it is just a tecnology that is not reliable enough .
