      Re: Wireless connection problems

There are no numbers in the default password, only capital letters. This is really irrelevant if you have selected 'Disable' under the Security Options in the router and it still does not connect. What happens when you try to connect with the Security disabled?

Open the Properties of the Wireless adapter and check that you are set to Obtain an IP automatically. If it is set, try changing it to a fixed address by typing
      IP Address 192.168.0.10
      Sub net 255.255.255.0
      Gateway 192.168.0.1
Leave the rest blank or put in open dns servers -
      208.67.222.222
      208.67.220.220

Finally check that the drivers for your Wireless card are the manufacturers latest. Do not trust the Windows drivers.

I have now managed to connect wirelessly to the router with an excellent signal.
Unfortunately I cannot access internet from laptop.
      Any ideas please.
Also the other laptop is a mac, it sees the network but will not accept password!

Rebooted several times, still can get wireless signal but unable to access internet.
Changed form WEP to WPA and hey presto connected (despite not working previously).
      Thanks for help.

      Re: Wireless connection problems

Remember to change your password to a more secure one, as the default one is not too secure. If you are worried about upsetting things, use the 'Backup Settings' link in the router to back your working settings up to a file on your PC. They can then easily be restored if anything goes wrong.

      Re: Wireless connection problems

It is probably another name for the security key. If you have not changed it the default network key will be found on the router and on the small card you received with it. Note that the default key is all capital letters, no numbers.

You can also check the key by looking in the router's wireless setting, under Security.
