in a pickle!! wireless connection to laptop

Can anyone help please!!After setting up my new sky router to pc , i then added 2 laptops and a wii to the network all worked fine , after a while i began experiencing problems with laptop 1 with unable to connect problems , i tried the usual repair , ipconfig and ping and checking wep keys but nothing, i then thought it may have been a problem with the laptop so gave up hope, after a while i began experiencing the same problems with laptop 2 and tried the usual repair and troubleshooter ,ping , checking router homepage etc , doing this on laptop 2 i could get a connection for around five minutes before the connection drops. On both laptops i can establish a connection through msn messenger after messing around with them for a while . Im not very tech experienced but know a small amount , any advice please

The basic advice for this is to try different channels in the router. It is possible someone nearby is using the same channel as you and this is interfering with the signal. The fact that one PC works and another doesn't, means little, as the quality of the adapters could be quite different. Try starting from Channel 13 and working down.

Go to the laptop manufacturer's site and see if any updated drivers are available for the wireless adapter. At the same time, check if any updates have been received from MS for your adapters. I have known them to really mess up network adapters, now I never accept them.

Re: in a pickle!! wireless connection to laptop

Does this happen if the Wii is turned off (red light not amber)? I only ask as it could be an IP address conflict. I had a similar problem when adding my sons WII. I gave it a static IP address at the top end of the range. If yours are 192.168.0.x then check on your router and assign say 192.168.0.25 to the wii. The wii manual tells you how to do this in very easy terms. Then turn on your PC's one at a time and see what happens.

Re: in a pickle!! wireless connection to laptop

I havent tried to be honest with the wii turned off, but will give it a shot, thanx. Thought i had managed to resolve with a reboot and adding connections again but this was for all of 5 minutes, i dont know whether this would be of importance but both laptops can gain access through msn messenger but will drop connection through internet explorer. Also attatched devices on the router page i have 3 connected devices which i guess is the 2 laptops and the wii. Tried to get one stable at a time before trying the other but as soon as i think one is stable the connection slips again. i hope you can help!! thank you !

I had a problem in my old house, never thought it'd be a problem, was sitting too close to the router and a cordless phone was nearby too.
