      connection drops every 30 mins

i am using w2k and recently moved into a house with some friends. my old belkin wireless card didn't work with sky broadband in the new place because they were using wpa and my card only used wep, so i recently baught a new belkin wireless g v7 card. i can now connect fine but after about roughly 30 mins, every single time without fail the card unplugs itself and i can't reconnect again without rebooting. none of my housemates have this problem on their laptops. i've tried changing all sorts of settings on the router and the cards setings but nothings makes a difference, and yes i have upnp turned off.

      any ideas??

      thanks

Try uninstalling the wireless adapter and reinstalling it.

Have you checked the manufacturers website to see if there is a driver update ?

Re: connection drops every 30 mins

Have you got any other wireless devices in the house eg.cordless phones.
Try moving the adapter to a different usb port on the computer.
Try logging in to the router username:admin psd:sky
Then when you are in the router go to wireless settings the link is in the menu on the left and change the ssid to something different and change the channel to 13 and also check if the connection works fine with ethernet just to make sure that the problem is only with wireless.

Re: connection drops every 30 mins

I think it may be a problem with the connection manager. WZC is very guilty of this type of behaviour, but as you will not be using that, there is a chance that the one you are using is doing the same. Try downloading and installing Boingo It is really meant for use in Hotspots, for which you have to pay. However the connection manager is free to download and use. It is reputed to be the best manager available for Windows2000.

Re: connection drops every 30 mins

I don't think w2k actually has a wireless connection manager, anyway, in the end i uninstalled belkins connection manager and installed connection manager lite and that seems to have done the trick.

as for getting a better laptop, i have a desktop for that, and this ones perfectly adequate just for web browsing when i'm moving around the house and stuff.

      thanks for all your help!
