      Sky Sagem router vs. ACER laptop

      Pls help, I already asked 2 of my friends help who are more pc literarte than me but still no luck! Here's my problem, got a new ACER laptop from a phone deal and I just switched to SKY with SAGEM wireless router. My desktop with XP upstair got no prob connecting with SKY but my laptop is a nightmare! Called SKY twice already and did a lot of their advice but still no success. Tried ACER with their premium no. for half a day didn't even managed to get through!!!
      Surprisingly, when my friend brought it to his house it worked! ( with ?linkysis router I believed). I would really appreciate any advice and by the way we tried using the cable as well. Pls help

      Re: Sky Sagem router vs. ACER laptop

      Presumably you are running Vista on the Acer.

      I'm puzzled that you could not even connect via ethernet cable which might indicate a problem with networking or network adapter setup on the Acer.

      Usually problems are with wireless security type (WEP WPA of various flavours due to terminological differences between Vista and router/adapter manufacturers) and are often solved by turning off security temporarily to confirm that the system works otherwise and then reapplying security, ensuring consistency between adapter and router security settings.

      Re: Sky Sagem router vs. ACER laptop

      Hi,

      I recently bought an Acer laptop and had trouble connecting wirelessly;

      Try following the advice I was given here which is;

      Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Centre

      Select the Wireless Connection and then Wireless Properties

      Click on the Security tab

      Select WPA-Personal
      Select Encryption TKIP
      Enter the Sky supplied WiFi key

      Hope this helps you.

      Posting the same query twice does not help.

      Re: Sky Sagem router vs. ACER laptop

      Acer include their own management software for things like Internet Connection. It hasn't caused me any problems (I'm currently connected wirelessly from my Acer laptop using Vista) however check it isn't causing a problem. Also my Acers (I have a couple on Vista and XP) have on/off buttons for the wireless connections and these need activating. But mine just connected to the Internet when a LAN cable was used and then connected by WiFi when the WPA code was entered.
