      connected but no internet!

      hi guys

i got a new acer laptop (well its old, and with XP) and i try to connect using wireless, it gets a IP address but when i look at the connection activity it has no bytes recieved but bytes sent. therefore i have no internet.
i uninstalled the norton firewall etc and i do not know if there is anything else blocking the internet access.

i have my wifes laptop witch conects wireless with no problem.

here is what i have tried

      1. put the network as unsecured (see if it doesn't like WPA, WEP security)
      STILL DOESN@T WORK

      2. put a simple password for wireless security
      STILL DOESN'T WORK

      3. Put all setting on netgear DG834GT router to default no luck.

is there anything i can use to investogate if the laptop has a program or router is stopping this acer laptop going online???

      any help

      Re: connected but no internet!

I have a similar problem on my daughter's PC. My laptop connects wirelessly to her Sky router (white Netgear) with no problems. She is using Windows 2000. I thought it might be her Actiontec wireless connector so tried my Netgear MA101. This shows excellent wireless connection but no internet connection. Any thoughts gratefully received.

      Re: connected but no internet!

Just sorted my daughter's PC. The Netgear MA101 doesn't support WPA so I am using 128 Bit WEP encryption. I'd input the WEP key incorrectly!! The Netgear was showing an excellent signal strength and I hadn't realised that it does that even if the WEP key isn't correct. Duh!! When I input it to my own laptop I must have done it correctly so discounted that as the problem. I then started looking for every possible other reason.

Very basic and I'm just wondering if mstar has made the same mistake (no offence meant).

      Re: connected but no internet!

right i got to the botton of it, its simply the TCPIP settings it had ip address already inserted!! no wonder it didn't work! i put it to default and automatically get IP address.
