      Cannot connect wirelessly or wired

Our previous laptop was connected to the Sky router no problems, (using a wireless adaptor) however last week we bought a new laptop with in built wireless, and I cannot get a connection.

I search for wireless networks, it finds the Sky router with an excellent signal, I put in the security key and it accepts it, it says "connected successfully", but then when I try and browse the internet, I just get "page cannot be displayed".

The network icon on bottom right confirms I am connected, a diagnostic test finds no problems, so why can I not get any pages to open ?

I have tried using the cable to connect, and cannot connect this way either.

If you cannot connect through ethernet the odds are you will not connect on wireless. On ethernet can you access 192.168.0.1? Also did you ever change anything within the router setup?
There is a reset button on the back of the router beside the power lead port, it's hidden inside a small hole in the panel, press a pen tip into the hole for 5 - 10 secs till the lights on the router flash off and then release it.

Re: Cannot connect wirelessly or wired

Excuse my ignorance but how do I check if I can connect to that IP address ?

Nope, never changed any settings at all on the router. The only thing that may have happened is that we had a house alarm fitted, and its been wired into the phone line to call someone if it goes off.

Could that have affected anything ?

To access your router click on this http://192.168.0.1/start.htm

      username admin, password sky

Have a look at the stats at the bottom of the page.

......and yes your alarm connection could have screwed with the broadband if it was not connected via a filter

There is an easy way of finding out what the problem is first of all click on diagnose connection problems on Internet Explorer when it says that it cannot display the webpage and post back what it says.

Re: Cannot connect wirelessly or wired

Thanks for peoples assistance with this. Turns out it was new house alarm that had not been fed through a filter when connected to the phone line in another room.

      All rectified and working now.
