Having trouble connecting the the internet, wireless!!

My daughters laptop has stopped connecting to the internet? Its an acer laptop running XP. The card connects to the router ok, but I cannot get the laptop to talk to the card? Repair does not work, I have tried using the netgear software and the windows software. When I get the staus display up it just says "limited or no connectivity, stumped, any help would be appriciated. Also get did not assign network address?

Re: Having trouble connecting the the internet, wireless!!

Check that the wireless security settings in the Acer's wireless user interface match those on other computers in use on the network -- specifically that the passphrase and security type (presumably WPA and the Sky default passphrase unless you have changed these)

If those appear to conform I think you need to address the router's user interface via the other computer or using an ethernet cable between the Acer and the router. Have a look at the tutorials on this site and perhaps the help files on the Sky CD for how to contact the router via your browser.

Once in the router user interface, I would temporarily disable wireless security until you can establish a reliable wireless connection with the Acer.

Agree. Disable WiFi security first and see if that helps.

      If not try from RUN>CMD:

ipconfig /release (note the space before the /)
      followed by
      ipconfig /renew (same space)
      then
ipconfig /all (to see what you have)

Also only use one WiFi Manager. Don't try using the XP Manager (which I recommend) and the WiFi card Manager software - that will cause problems. It's either/or but not both.
