I am not 100% sure but I think there is a clue in your mention of Inventel. I take it you have an Inventel wireless adapter. To use WZC the native software must be disabled, or even not installed. Look on the configuration page for the adapter and see if there is a box to disable the connection manager, or alternatively a box which says 'use Windows to Configure..' If you can't see anything to disable it, try disabling the Windows one instead. To do this open the list of services (post 5 above) and scroll down to WZC. Double click it to open it's properties and click the Stop button. Then use the drop down box to select 'Disable'. Close out. I am assuming you are using the XP machine as I don't think there are Vista drivers for the adapter. If I am correct this adaptor will not support WPA which is the router default security, but this should not matter if you have Disabled the security on the router.

When you click Manage it should open the Computer Management Console, in the left pane of the console, at the bottom of the list click the + sign next to Services and Applications. When the list opens click Services and these will open in the Right pane. Scroll down the list and you will find WZC near the bottom.

You should be able to click the green box and select Connect. Not sure if it will be right or left click, try both.

      Re: Help!!help!! Help!!

      Hi

I am still having no joy with trying to connect; i even managed to crash the whole system last night.

I feel that in the interest of my own health(and marriage!!) that i should just go and buy a new wireless that is compatiable with both the desk top and the Vista lap top.... any ideas what the best or most user friendly one would be?

      Thanks

The one from Sky They then have to fully support it via tech support if anything happens to it or you cannot connect with the router.

      Re: Help!!help!! Help!!

Paul's advice is good up to a point, however unless you are using an adapter supplied by Sky, you will get little help.

From what I have read the Inventel adapter you are using has a lot of problems. Maybe you should consider buying a Netgear adapter from Sky, this way you would get full technical support from them.

Just one point, do you have a friend with a wireless laptop who could try to connect to your router. I am wondering if the router wireless is not operating as it should. I find it strange that even with the security turned off, you are unable to make a connection. Security is the most common cause of failure to connect.

      Re: Help!!help!! Help!!

There is one other thing I would mention. Has your firmware been updated? If so this could be behind the whole problem. There have been reports that the upgrade has 'broken' the wireless part of some routers. If you have and the update coincides with your failure to connect, it could be the answer.
