Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapter won't talk to V2 netgear

      Hi there,

My connection was activated today, my laptop (with integrated wi-fi) hooked straight up with router, I typed in the passkey and I was online.

However I have 3 desktops in my house with Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapters that just wont work. They can detect the network, but continually fail to aquire a network address.

I have tried with the linksys connection software and the standard XP program both with the same failing loop.

I have updated the drivers for the cards but they still don't want to know.
      Anyone got any ideas?

Hi , firslty make sure you are typing the wpa password in capitals. Then try without security to establish that the card has a good signal. If it connects without security try wep security. Its not as secure but its better than nothing.

Thanks for the ideas, sadly its still not connecting on the desktops.
I tried it with security totally disabled and got pretty much the same results, the card detected the network, with excellent strength but failed to aquire an IP. The router I was using before changing to sky was a linksys like the cards and the router had trouble with non-linksys wi-fi cards. I'm starting to think linksys products are just not compatible with other manufacturers hardware.
      Any further suggestions appreciated.

You could try changing the channels on the router to see if you can make a connection.

If you just cannot connect and you still have your linksys, it is possible to hook this in to the Sky router and disable the wireless in the Netgear. Maybe not the best of solutions but if the Linksys has a better wireless range, it may be worthwhile.

You could try setting a static IP address on your machines instead of using the dhcp on the sky router.

see : PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

      for detailed instructions.

for the sky router the settings should be

ip address : 192.168.0.51 (change the last 2 digits for each machine
eg 192.168.0.52 for second machine etc..)
      subnet mask : 255.255.255.0

      default gateway : 192.168.0.1

      preferred DNS server : 192.168.0.1
