Netgear WG311 pci adapter and DG934 router problem

      hey guys,

This one really confusing me. I cant seem to get the pci adapter to connect to router after going through the set up process its always returning no connectivity. The odd couple times it did connect the speed and signal strength has been shockingly low anyone have the pci adapter working with the netgear v2 router and all is working ok???

Have you tried going into the router settings page and setting a new channel on the router, there are so many things that can impact wireless performance it can sometimes be a bit hit and miss getting it working. Any devices near the router that may be interfering with the signal?

Just for info, I have the same router and PCI card and they work great together. Mines a v3 version of the PCI card and it's all configured with WEP.

Re: Netgear WG311 pci adapter and DG934 router problem

      Spooky !
I've just (yesterday) joined Sky from Demon and I'm using the same kit as router and WG311 v2 PCI card. The card worked fine with my old D-Link router, but I am having problems too. At the moment I suspect configuration problems rather than anything specific to the hardware. I'll keep battling on. I can access the router fine using the LAN but having severe problems with wireless.

      Symptoms I see....

      Visibility of network is intermittant.
Signal strength shown as full if it is visible.
Unable to connect to network (wireless key problems??)

I have now changed the security to WEP (as per old D-Link). No apparent change.
I have also (thank you PaulSky) tried changing the channel and am now seeing an attempt at connection but not being assigned a network address.
      I'll keep battling on.

Re: Netgear WG311 pci adapter and DG934 router problem

It seems to be OK now.
As usual I can't work out exactly what the problem was, but it seems to have been a combination of
      1) Channel selection giving intermittant visbility
      2) Security

I had changed to WEP as this was proven to be working with my old router. After various other trials I put the security back to WPA-PSK and the whole thing sprang into life.

Now let's see if it's stable and performant !

Re: Netgear WG311 pci adapter and DG934 router problem

I'm using the Windows bits & pieces. I've never really had much use for the Netgear app.

Just to rub it in - I've now connected my Apple Airport Express units into the wireless network with no problems.

Re: Netgear WG311 pci adapter and DG934 router problem

If you have the router lying flat, try standing it on it's end using the supplied feet. This may give you a better signal dispersion. Plus it keeps it cooler.

EDIT _ If you have to use WEP it is probably advisable also to use the Wireless access list. This gives a little more security.
