Re: Dell Laptop cannot detect Sky Router

I've nothing problems since friday on my new laptopn with sky. What wireless card do you have? I have a Inter 4965 and was sure that was the problem until i went around a mates house and it ran find on his bt hub set up.

So ok it must be the router i'll ring sky up then i seen something about cordless phones can mess things up.

So i switched off all 3 phones including the base unit which sat no further than 2 Ft away from the router and so far it's ran fine 2.5 hours and counting.

Do you have anything like that near your set up?

Re: Dell Laptop cannot detect Sky Router

My network card is a Dell 1370 mini PCI one. I have got a wireless phone near the router and have tried unplugging it but again no luck with it.

I notice that everytime I refresh the network list it constantly keeps finding and dropping out the neighbours routers. This must be a card failure or have I somehow accidently turned off some feature? Is there a way to completely reset the wifi card to its default settings?

Have you tried changing wireless channels on the router - could be a conflict with that neighbours' which I should have thought of before!

Check and make sure that the routers aerial is firmly in place. Try connecting to the router being closer to it

Re: Dell Laptop cannot detect Sky Router

As it is a Mini PCI it is easier than onboard. Try this to completely re-set it.
Go to the Device Manager, right click the adapter and select unistall.
When it asks to reboot select No and shut down.
Open the case and remove the card, then boot into windows then shut down.
Replace the card and re-boot, install the card using the latest drivers.

There is a slight chance that your problem is caused by the card working a bit loose in it's socket, so try taking it out and refitting it, making sure the aerial connector is secure, before you try a full reinstall.

This is an older card and if you want to replace it, you will find them on eBay for around a tenner. If you do have to replace it you would be better with something a bit more up to date. The WG111 might be your best bet as it is guaranteed compatible with the Netgear router.

Don't even consider paying Dell 50 for a replacement.

One word of caution, when you take this card out, or do anything that involves delving into your laptop, remove the battery as well as disconnecting it from the power supply.

Just an afterthought, if you have a bricked Netgear, or one of your friends has. Open it up and inside is a Mini PCI wireless card. I am sure I read that on this forum somewhere.

Many thanks for the great replies. Will try the complete resetting of the card this evening.

Thankyou ( Isitme ) for the links to the equipment I need if required as I'm sure it is the card that is the problem not the router.

      Update

Switched the laptop on this evening and its connected to Sky router! No idea whats happened or changed but its working. I honestly thought the network card was faulty. Could it have been a rogue firmware update to the router that has been rectified?
Has anyone else noticed anything over the last couple of days regarding updates?

Re: Dell Laptop cannot detect Sky Router

      Update 3

Bought a new wireless card and.... it still doesn't work, exactly the same problem

Thing is if i use the Dell wireless WLAN utility there is a red X through the sky router. But if I click on the site monitor tab the laptop sees the router all the time but if i goto the network list if doesn't show up....

      Have I somehow disabled something?

Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling, and now a new network card but still no joy. If i use a old wireless dongle it connects straight away so i know there isn't a problem with the router, just the internal wireless card?

      Help!
