Crappy ping over Wireless, Wired is fine

I tested my connection for my computer which is wireless and it's ping is massive.

I checked on my brothers wired PC and his ping is way lower than my wireless.

      Wireless

      Wired

Is there anything I can do to sort it out? I've used TCP optimizer, changed the routers channels etc, but my ping is still high.

BTW the router is just in the next room a few metres away, and I am getting an excellent signal strength.

Try a different channel for the wireless and experiment with the position of the router, getting it higher up sometimes helps. IMHO the best answer is to get yourself wired.

i'm not sure speedtest servers report pings that well, have you tried to ping the BBC on both comps and see what results you get

Just pinged both computers to BBC - bbc.co.uk homepage - Home of the BBC on the Internet and yeah they both average at 55ms.

Slightly confused to why speedtest gives me a massive difference in the ping results.

Re: Crappy ping over Wireless, Wired is fine

wireless for gaming is a huge no no, the 2.4 GHz frequency is the "free" one that doesn't need a liscence to operate in.

In my house I now have 8 wireless devices all on separate channels and I can see 6 other routers when I do a site survey, so in our area there has to be a clash on at least one channel.

So even if you can't see any of your neighbours routers they could be operating video senders, wireless door bells, even modern central heating systems can have wireless components all clashing badly and any interferrence will severly impact on pings as the data is being sent from the router multiple times so it can et to you.

If pings are that important then wired is the way to go.
