Question Which Adapter for Netgear DG934G1 router

      Hi

I was just received the sky router which is the black coloured DG934 router. My desktop is not wireless enabled hence need to buy a compatible usb or pc card adaptor. I have been told that pc card is better in terms of reception for wireless networking but I' not too sure I'll be able to install it properly on my desktop (never opened up a desktop before for any hardware changes).

Please advise which one to go for. Is there a usb adaptor for this DG934 router specifically which will work well? Also what's the difference between 54Mbits and 108Mbits adaptors (i know 108 is supposed to be faster but do I actually get faster or better wireless networking with this adaptor and the above mentioned router or is it more or less the same speed)?

Is there anybody around using DG934 ( have seen most threads mentioning DG834 router)? Is this router in anyway better than DG834?

Please answer urgently as need to buy the adaptor and start using the system before the expiry of sky's time limit for returns/refunds of 8 days, in case things don't work out correctly.

      cheers

Re: Which Adapter for Netgear DG934G1 router

Presumably you are presently hooked up by ethernet cable. I think if you switch to a USB wireless device you may be a little disappointed by performance -- and the hassles of setting up wirelesss (mostly to do with encryption standards).

Wireless is convenient, but if possible use a PCI or PCMCIA (aka PC Card) adapter.

I'd advise sticking with the Netgear brand to avoid confusion in terminology -- and because Netgear's support is probably better and more likely to be continuing than a cheapo brand's. Netgear's user forum is second only in usefulness to this Sky forum.

As for speed, you can safely ignore the difference between 54 and 108 mbs -- largely a marketing gimmick.

its difficult to pick one out., but the ralink devices (OEM, not retail) seem to be some of the most stable and best supported cards around.

edit: get a pci card, do NOT get usb
