Help! Thinking of leaving Sky.
Hi experts. Been lurking around ever since moving house and transferring from VM to Sky (not in a Virgin area anymore).
Could do with someone's advise if poss please guys and girls.
Had Sky since the start of Jan and for a couple of days it was all fine. All of a sudden my connection drops out all the time. I am connected wirelessly and I am about 7 metres away. My connection from the router is always 4/5 - 5/5. But it still randomly loses connection while browsing/downloading.
Obviously this is a nightmare. It may well be some settings on my pc, as this is my first crack at wireless networking. But not sure how to move forward with testing my connection and such.
Help me fellow Sky users... you're my only hope!

Re: Help! Thinking of leaving Sky.
If version 1 router white Netgear turn off UPnP in the router (see tutorials on this site or help files on Sky CD for how to address router user interface).
Scan for neighbouring wifi and change channel. Relocate cordless phone base/video sender away from computer and router.
Try turning off wireless security temporarily and see if things improve.

Re: Help! Thinking of leaving Sky!
Two things come to mind. First, try switching off UPnP - go to http://192.168.0.1/ click on the UPnP link, untick the "Turn UPnP On" option and click on Apply.
If that doesn't solve the problem, you could try changing wireless channel number, as it may be that one of your neighbours has just got a wireless router and there's a clash of channel numbers.

Re: Help! Thinking of leaving Sky.
Hey guys. Sorry for the dupe thread!
! Just wasn't sure where to put it and missed it in the rules. Sorry Mods!
Admin note: OK - merged the two threads - don't do it again
Thanks for all the speedy responses.
How do i get the stats? Like I said i'm very much a newbie to wireless. I presume in the router home page?
Also think I must have the V2 router. Tried with security off and still drops connection.
Thanks again.Last edited by Saturday; 01-02-08 at 09:51 PM.

Re: Help! Thinking of leaving Sky!
When you say 'drops out' do you mean your internet connection drops or the wireless connection to the router?
Have you tried a wired connection, if so does it drop.
Also, unless you are running Vista, it does no harm to optimize your connection by running TCPOptimizer

Re: Help! Thinking of leaving Sky.
Ok, so I think these are the stats people need. When I say I lose connection I mean now and again I go from "Access: Local and Internet" to "Local only". All the time my connection strength is always 4-5 bars out of 5.
System Up Time: 4:06:39
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 1036862 1056925 0 48139 242762 3:32:55
LAN 15 0 0 0 0 4:06:39
WLAN 1072688 1056582 0 248198 50717 4:06:17
Connection Speed 7392 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 42.0 db 24.0 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 13.0 db
Also already optimised settings. (Even though i'm on Vista. Hope that's cool)
Router model number - Sagem - LK07333D P280260
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Re: Help! Thinking of leaving Sky.
Hmm, vista....
I had this problem but mine went a bit further as to not let me back on wireless again.
So I then went wired and it kept happening, and not letting me access the router or net again after it had bombed out.
As a consequence I simlpy deleted vista and went back to XPRegards,
