      Smile Strange Wireless Problem..??

Hello all, i'm not a complete noob when it comes to routers and wireless internet.. but this has me baffled..

I use a laptop at home, i connect to the internet with it at work, home, other work, friends house completely fine..
but at home, the internet often stops working, I wam still connected to the router, i just cant seem to access the internet. I look at the router and all light that should be working work.. I restart the router but nothing happens.. the only way i can fix it is if i restart my laptop..

So does that mean its a problem with my laptop?? but it has no problem when connected at work or anywhere else.. so why at home??

when the internet does disconnect at home, i have been able to get into the router settings, which informs me that there is no default gateway/ ip address etc...
i do a sky test and then this tell me that there is a problem with the pppoa..

      help?

      thanks..

      thanks..
pppoa is your connection settings including your username & password.. but if they was wrong youd never get a connection.. in your router settings there should be a page that has your internet connection status.. should read 'Connected'

I would double check your wirless settings in connections and make sure you have it set to assign an IP address automatically.

To be honest we will need your stats from the router as it may be that your line has issues or there is something going on and the feed from the router to the server is dropping.

      Re: Strange Wireless Problem..??

hi, what stats would you like?
      i have the netgear dg834gt..

      Firmware Version V1.02.28

i'm not sure if it would be very safe to post ip addresses..

      LAN Port
      MAC Address 00:18:4D:60:F8:78
      IP Address 192.168.0.1
      DHCP On
      IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version A2pB018e.d16f
      Modem Status Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed 3840 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 416 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

      Wireless Port
      Name (SSID) PANTS ON FIRE!!!
      Region Europe
      Channel 13
      Wireless AP Enabled
      Broadcast Name Enabled

i change the channel from 6 to 13 but it didnt make a difference...
erm.. when it does disconnect (not from the router but from the internet) sometimes it might reconnect for a short while.. but then disconnect again.. and i have to restart my computer for it to have a stable connection for about an hour at least.

      Re: Strange Wireless Problem..??

you are getting a few errors (prob error spikes) most likely down to your internal wiring which is prob giving you the disconnections
do you plug the router into an extention ?

you can do a few things, look into the cabling and faceplate forum for tips on how to improve your home wiring / do a comparison set of stats from your "test" socket (see first link in my sig) / or use the mognuts utility to increase your target noise margin (when you increase the noise margin your router will reboot and sync at a lower speed but with the higher noise margin it should cope with the errors a little better)

if it were me i would do a wired test from the test socket first
