      Talking Start up help

I am trying to set up a wireless internet connection for my daughter on her laptop computer but with no luck.
The computer is an Acer and uses Vista. Her internet connection is with Sky and her wireless router is Netgear. She can get onto the internet no problem when it is hard wired to the router but once unwired it picks up other non secure wireless signals which are very weak.
I have read the "How to configure your routers wireless settings and printed it off".
How do I set up a wireless connection on the laptop and in which order do I do things

      Start up help

      Can anybody help me please.
I am trying to set up a wireless internet connection on my daughters laptop computer. The computer is an acer annd she uses sky broadband. She has been provided with a Netgear router.
I have read the "How to configure your Routers wireless settings" which looks reasonably straight forward.
How do I set up a wireless connection on the laptop and in which order do I do things. When she connects to the internet whilst hard wired to the router things are ok but once unconnected the laptop picks up several weak unsecured networks and connects to 'default'.
I have not used this site before so I hope I have posted this on the right forum. Silver Fox.

      Re: Start up help

Merged two threads (please - just one thread per issue) and moved to wireless forum.

There are other members better equipped to help you on this but perhaps we can make a start.

Probably best to start with an unencrypted connection and I'd suggest you start first with your router. You need to check that your router is broadcasting an unencrypted wireless signal by navigating to the router's setup page (192.168.0.1 - admin/sky) and accessing the wireless settings.
      (top left).

Make sure "wireless access point" is enabled and set the security options to disable.

By the time you've done that I'm sure someone else wll be along to help with the next bit.

      Good luck
