      Desktop Fails Laptop OK

      Hi

Over the months the wireless connection to our desktop (running XP SP2) has got more flaky. We get regular drop in speed and loss of connection at times about once every 30 secs.

The desktop is quite close to the router and the problem continues when I put them right next to each other.

When the problem occurs I run down stairs and the laptop running downstairs is fine solid and 1.8Mbps downloads on speedtest.

So I got a new wireless pci card and tried that - no improvement.

Tried the advice on here including disabling UPnP but no improvement.

PCs about 4 years old now could it be struggling to cope with latest software. Virus? Spyware? I have run scans.

      Any suggestions gratefully received!

Thanks for the suggestion - still as bad with the laptop off.

Tried the optimiser from your link it improved the speed but did not stop the intermittent loss of connection.
