Wireless worked with previous router (ISP) not SKY

      Hi,

      First post.

I have just switched to SKY from Pipex.

On pipex I was using a 2Wire router and connecting one PC via a wired connection and 2 laptops wirelessly.

Having gone to SKY today, the wired connection works fine and so does ONE of the laptops, the other doesnt want to know.

      It is using a Netgear MA401 - 802.11b 16-bit PCMCIA card.

As I say worked fine boefore on 2Wire/Pipex.

Should this work with SKy and the Belkin?

Any advice on what to check?

I 'see' the router and a very strong signal, when I click to connect it tries for a few seconds and just says 'Not available / in range'.

Also the light on the card flashes, whereas before it was solid.

Do I need a different card or to amend some settings on the PC?

      TIA.

Re: Wireless worked with previous router (ISP) not SKY

      Answering my own thread...........

Could the issue be the Netgear MA401 - 802.11b only supporting WEP whereas I have my security set at WPA?

If this is the case, do I just need to buy a 802.11g card that supports WPA? (Or alternatively change the router security to WEP).

      Thanks again!

Try changing the router to WEP, if it connects then your card doesn't work with WPA.

Just remember if it still doesn't connect, then your card is probably faulty, and you should change it back to the more secure WPA.

If the card only supports WEP, then having the router on WPA won't work, but you giessed that.

Personally, I'd buy a new PC card for the laptop rather then switch the router to WEP, as WEP can be broken in a matter in minutes...

You pick them up at the very expensive PC world for 20, so cheaper online!!

      Thanks for the replies.

Have ordered another card which supports more than WEP!
