      Sky Router Netgear Wg311v1 Adapter

i CANNOT GET A WIRELESS CONNECTION WITH THE WG311 CARD and my sky router.

I have followed the stickied thread at the top but at the point where i choose my wireless network it says computer is unable to connect to network. the signal strength is very strong 4/5 bars lit.

i am able to connect through the router via ethernet and also have a wireless connection via my laptop.

i am running windows xp pro sp2

your help is appreciated. if someone could give me a step be step guide that would be great as i am a network novice.

      many thanks

Some network configuration utilities for USB wireless adapters behave like this if the security settings aren't right. Are you getting anything through the network during that 30 seconds?

As above, check that wireless encryption settings match. Also turn off UPnP in the router -- there's a bug which causes intermittent disconnections.

I thought that was the actual adsl connection the bug caused to drop?

Re: Sky Router Netgear Wg311v1 Adapter

I'm a bit late answering this but maybe I can help. I have two remote PCs with the WG311T wireless card and have had the same problem. It drove me crazy.

Your problem I'm afraid is with the Router firmware. I had the Netgear DG834GT router long before I got Sky's branded one and have had the same problem with both Routers.

I am currently running Netgear Router firmware version 1.02.04 (Don't tell Sky though) this solved my problems and everything just works fine. Netgear have released a more up to date version of the firmware but when I installed it the good old connect/disconnect/connect/disconnect problem returned so I went back to the version above when everything worked again.

There are instructions as to how to install original Netgear firmware over the SKY version on this site but it comes with various disclaimers over potential lack of support from Sky if something subsequently goes wrong, so beware.

It's fairly easy to reinstall the old SKY firmware should that happen though as it's on the SKY CD.

      I hope this helps!

I can only say that our wireless disconnection problem was solved by switching UPnP off. Symptoms were only present on a computer which was at the limits of reception, wirelessed computer close to the router had been fine.
