wireless connection times out every 10 minutes but wired connection is ok

      Hi,

I was using plus.net as my ISP until a few weeks ago and moved to sky. I did and still do get 54mps signal strength but since moving to the sky router, my laptop loses its wireless connection. I tried timing it yesterday and found that it loses the connection every 10 minutes, as regular as clockwork.

The laptop I have a problem with is my personal one with windows XP. However, my work laptop (using Windows 2000) does not have the same problem and can keep its wireless connection all day.

When the wireless connection is lost, the router still says it has a network connection and if I click repair, it never gets past the connecting message although the full green bars on the wireless speed indicator do return and despite the fact the message still reads connecting, I can continue accessing the internet once the green bars return.

I have tried installing the latest driver for my wireless card but that didn't help.

I have searched everywhere I can think of for a "10 minute timeout" setting but can't find one.

I have tried all channels but none resolve the issue and besides, it appears laptop/windows specific.

I sit < 2 metres from the router but once again the strength isn't a problem, it is the lost wireless connection at 10 minute intervals (wired connection does not lose its connection)

Can anyone suggest next steps ? Has anyone heard of these symptoms before ?

Re: wireless connection times out every 10 minutes but wired connection is ok

Just lost my connection again. Having repaired it, I am back on line but whilst my signal strength reads 54mps and I can access the web, my wireless connection icon in my system tray says not connected. Could it be that something specific to the laptop needs re-installing ? Maybe that windows thinks I am not connected when I am and therefore gets confused every 10 minutes. It baffles me. I will reboot just in case the UPnP benefits from it.....any other ideas are much appreciated !

Sorry, what is the "nics own" ? How do I know if I have one and use it ?

Re: wireless connection times out every 10 minutes but wired connection is ok

Still having the same 10 minute dicsonnect but I think I found what you mean - I have a broadcom network internet connection driver and have downloaded the latest one. My wireless card is Dell Trumobile 1300 and I have upgraded that driver to but to no avail. My work laptop keeps working all day so I am convinced it is something to do with my laptop but can't find any other services, drivers etc that look related. There are a load of settings like fragmentation and RTS thresholds but they mean nothing to me. Any other ideas anyone ?
