      Basic Router questions

      Hello,

There modem/router/firewall combos are totally new to me. To be honest I'd much prefer having my own router connected to a modem so that I could configure the port forwarding the way I want... but barring that.

      1. How to do find out what router I have? It's a white one with a pretty white antenae on it, but Netgear appears to have neglected to label it with a model number

      2. I am prompted for a username and password when I try to log into its web interface. Where do I find the username and password?

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

      Re: Basic Router questions

      To answer your questions:

      1) it's a Netgear DG834GT modem router with a custom firmware made for sky so you can't just use the regular Netgear updates you need to wait for the sky one to be released.

      2) to get onto the web interface the username is admin and the password is sky.

There are useful stickies all over the place with lots of information but if you get stuck still just ask and somebody will help.
