Sheer Frustration! Unable to connect to router!

Having finally got over the problems of connectng to the router but then not being able to connect to the internet im now unable to connect to the router!

Originally i was running a fresh install of windows XP after acquiring a machine that had previously been running Linux. After windows automatically updated itself I've now completely lost the ability to connect to the router, I've tried reinstalling my wireless card but to no avail!

Anyone have any ideas as to what idiotic microsoft software may be causing the issue?

Re: Sheer Frustration! Unable to connect to router!

I too have the same problem

If you find out what caused it let me know!

I've just installed a fresh copy of XP Pro onto a Dell C610 and it will not connected to the router I'm using a Belkin Wireless adaptor (PCMCIA) Which is installed correcty. I also have 2 other laptops on the same router and have connected fine with no errors and have been working for months.
My issue is that this new PC won't assign default gateway and IP address etc.. (It tries to but will not conenct to the router.. Is there anything I could have set on the router firmware previsously that would prevent me from adding another connection The Belkin wireless screen shows the router and it's signal strength but that it. it just wont connect!!

Oh one last thing if I connect the laptop to the router using a RJ45 cable directly I works OK, but that kinda defeats the object of wireless!! lol

Any help would be greatly recieved....

Have you double checked the network key? If so try turning the router security off temporarily, see if that makes any difference. Many wireless connection problems are down to security problems of some kind
