Wireless USB speeds start out great but then go average

My setup either Sky netgear or speedtouch 585(tried both with same results)

Wired/Wireless i get a 12mb connection,my problem is after few hours of downloading the wireless connection starts to slow down alot!

Is this down to the usb adaptor overheating, would i be better of with a pci card?.My signal strength on the usb is 100% at the front of my PC and 86/81% at the back.So i'm a bit worried about having a pci card at the back of my pc.Tho saying that the speeds are bascially the same...

So what do you reckon, best getting a pci card?

      Thanks

Re: Wireless USB speeds start out great but then go average

There's been a lot of discussion on the Netgear forums about USB wireless adapters overheating after prolonged use.

My wireless reception is marginal at best (due to layout of home) and USB is pretty useless compared to PCI which works reliably, albeit slowly, in this setting.

How hard is it to swivel the computer around so the PCI aerial is pointing the right way ? I think you'll find a PCI card more durable if the USB is about to self-immolate.

Thanks for the reply. My usb adaptor is a tp-link one(does get pretty hot after a few hours)
It's connected downstairs to my media centre. So if i bought a pci card i wouldn't be able to move the pc
