      Wireless Download Speeds

Last Friday I was transferred from connect to the mid package.
Yesterday, I upgraded to the max package.
My PC is hard wired to the router.
My PC was achieving download speeds around 12.5Mb/sec
My Laptop, using the wireless facility achieved around 2Mb/sec.
I hardwired the Laptop and the speed remained low.
I then messed around with the settings and ended up increasing the rwin value.
Bingo. The Laptop achieved the 12.5Mb/sec.
Previously it had the settings for a 2Mb/sec fixed package.
I didn't realise this setting made that much difference.

      One further point.
I have found that the orientation of the Laptop significantly effects download speed.
Would a USB Wireless Adaptor hanging on the side overcome this problem?

      Re: Wireless Download Speeds

USB isn't as good as cardbus/PCMCIA -- but as you've discovered positioning is crucial -- see if raising the router above furniture level improves things too.

      Re: Wireless Download Speeds

      Hey

It doesnt matter, anything PCMCIA / USB will run slow and if its usb 1.0 even slower, even if you where getting the full 16mb of sky (through USB your speed will always be capped slow)

I will find out the following from a friend what the data rate on USB1 / USB2 / PCMCIA and will post back,

      or someone might respond sooner.
