      Poor wireless signal strength

Any ideas on how I can improve the **** poor wireless signal from my Sky Netgear router?

I can't get a signal at all upstairs, and downstairs it never goes above 60% strength - even if I stand next to it with the laptop it's still only 60% yet the laptop picks up the neighbours wireless signals ok (live in a detached house so quite a distance and 2 outside walls at least).

The router is in the hall on a shelf and nowhere near any electrical equipment.

      Cheers

I guess you have already tried changing the channels to see if that improves things ?

Yep tried all the channels and switched the antenna for a foot long 9.5Db one.

Might have something to do with Portsmouth. I live in the Fratton area and my wireless strength is always terrible. Only good if i am sitting on right next to the router (not really much point in having wireless then). Just a quick question what it your internet speed??? (download and upload???) I used speedtest.net and mine is terrible. Not sure if its just the portsmouth area.

Yeah if you have tried all the diffrent channels and you still cant
get a full speed link in the same room, I would RMA it.

      Re: Poor wireless signal strength

From past experience you get a better signal by installing the wireless router as high as possible, i.e upstairs or in the loft.
you don't say what you are using to connect with, is it a laptop or a PC? Are you sure that the PC or laptop wireless card isn't the fault?
