Unhappy No or Slow wireless connection

      Hi,

I'm using a MacBook (but have the same issues with a windows laptop) and a netgear router.
I can connect fine using the yellow cable (which is fine if I want to sit on the floor in the hall!) but my wireless connection is intermittent.
Problems range from it not appearing at all in the list of available networks, connecting with full signal strength but no internet connection, or slow internet connection, and very occasionally it works fine.
Sometimes works better if I'm closer to the router, but that varies.
I have tried manually setting the IP, DNS addresses etc.
Any help (with instructions please) or advice would be greatly appreciated!

      Thanks!

Use the yellow cable to address the router's user interface via Internet Explorer (or whatever) and turn off UPnP. See Sky CD help files or tutorial on this site for how to address the interface.

From my limited experience, Mac notbooks don't have great wireless range (compared side by side with a Netgear cardbus wireless adapter in a Windows laptop).

You might try raising the router above furniture level. Also try scanning for neighbouring wireless networks and move to a channel as far as poss from the strongest.

Re: No or Slow wireless connection

I tried all the suggestions posted on here for similar problems - all very helpful suggestions I might say, however I still had the same problem. Basically I'd had 5 years of great service with BT, with wireless free surfing all over the house. Then as soon as I moved to Sky I had these problems, particularly in one bedroom where I could never get a signal. Nothing else had changed so it must have been down to the Sky Router.

After about 6 weeks of messing around, the only way I resolved the problem was buying 2 x Netgear WG602 wireless access points and configuring them as Repeaters - I also bought a 9dbi aerial, but I think it was the access points that resolved it as the aerial on it's own made no difference.

I wasn't too pleased that it cost me nearly 70 (about 7 months worth of savings) to get a service that was the same as I had with BT, however I'm fully up and running at last and the service now is good - download speeds with my Sky 8mb connection are generally quicker than they were with BT.
