      Smile Any help appreciated please

      Hi,
Im a new sky subscriber as of end June/beginning July. I have the tv/mid broadband/phone package. Anyway about 2 weeks after the TV installation was done, the broadband activation happened. About a week after that the router arrived!!! I installed the router as instructed etc and nothing happened - no internet - no nothing. I rang the phone number etc and was told that someone would get back to me in '3 - 5 days'. About a week later, someone did indeed get back to me, only to tell me the Router wasnt accepting or recognising the IP blah blah blah and they would try and sort it there end. Still nothing happened or worked. Then last Friday, another phonecall to say that the router was faulty ( I could have told them that) and that a replacement had been sent and could I please pack up the one I had, along with all cables etc (I could keep the installation CD if I wished) and send it back to them with the returns label blah blah blah. So, I did - the following day. Today, I received the replacement router and theres no flipping cables!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just the power adapter and router!!! My previous provider expires sometime today and so now Im going to be without internet access till I get a cable lol. Im not going to wait around till Sky send a replacement cable. Christmas would arrive sooner tbh. So, would/could one of you knowledgable people here tell me what the grey cable that goes from the router to the microfilter thingy is called and are they readily available??
Heres hoping I can log on to read any responses lol.......thanks for your help
      Sue

      Hi

You will need an ethernet cable also known as an RJ45 cable and also a standard RJ11 to RJ11 cable.

      RJ45 Cable

      Filter

If you go to a PC World or local PC shop, they should be standard stock items. Did you get any filters at all? If not you will need one for each phones socket that has a phone in it.

Hi, thanks for your reply.......yes, luckily when packing everything up I missed the microfilter that I had put in the phone socket and so that is still there. I do have an ethernet cable already from a different router many moons back but its the cable from the router to the mirco filter that I need to get. It seems to have a smaller squarer connection than the usual phone cables I have -which have an oblong shaped white connection at one end and the small clear plastic at the other......PC world it is then - thank so much for your help.......

that's what i class as a normal phone cable, you might already have one of these - if you have a new digital phone they have these plugged into the bottom.

i share one for my fax/phone/when i had my ADSL line

have a look around first, just incase you have a spare.

What you need is the small clear plastic bit at each end. Just make sure that cable looks like that when you are there.

PeteC - hi, I did have a scout round, trying to rob any phone I had in the house that might have the cable I need but alas, they are all those ones with the white oblongy connection that goes straight into the phone socket and not a microfilter - and I had two of those lol - pffffftttttttt typical

      Re: Any help appreciated please

hmm, the filters i have will accept one of those. i have one running from my old ADSL router which goes into the filter using the white plug

i just uplug the smaller end and put it straight into my fax machine

I thought all filters had a adsl and phone socket
