      Welcome,

First things first, have you done everything to ensure that your router is running at the optimum speed for your line conditions.
      Read this first.
      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/speed...explained.html

      Then post your router stats.

PLEASE READ FIRST: How to obtain and post router stats

Its best if you connect to your router with the yellow Ethernet lead at first, before using wireless.

Re: Help, pc too far from router.

I used my laptop to test the connection speed wireless up close it was 6000kbs and wired 6500kbs. And from my room wireless 600kbs.

their running on different wireless cards but the laptop gets the same speed from my room. so do you reckon it is a case of it being to far?

Can't really comment at your wireless speeds, you are connecting at just over 8mbps, but I would have thought you could do a bit better with your attenuation of 42 db, as your noise margin is a bit low at 7.4db.

Have you tried connecting via the test socket, and or removing the bell wiring from any extensions you might have?

Re: Help, pc too far from router.

      1) Range 2) Interference

Try raising the router nearer the ceiling to clear furniture, people etc. Try moving the computer slightly (or antenna position).

Try putting both router and computer near windows on the same side of the building.

Use the adapter's scan utility and move to a frequency 6 channels away from strongest neighbouring wifi network. No neighbours ? -- experiment with different channels anyway.

Relocate cordless phone base stations, video senders etc.

Similar problem solved by using a pair of HomePlug (or powerline) ethernet adapters. These devices convert your home's electrical wiring into an ethernet network.

I bought my Devolo 200 AV starter kit on eBay and am happy with the easy setup and ability to use an encrypted high-speed internet connection anywhere in the house.

Brilliant solution for me too. Alternatively use another router with decent range.
