      Re: Wireless slow

Wireless is always slower than wired (whatever the makers say). But you may improve speed by optimising reception -- scan for neighbouring networks and move to a channel 6 stops away from the strongest. Place the router nearer ceiling level. Experiment with positioning the USB lead.

I have managed to get the speed up over 4mg by using the TCP Optimizer

I'd forgotten to mention TCPOpt -- too busy installing new Netgear WG311 PCI wireless adapter and fell straight into the bug that I've seen mentioned on their forum several times that stops you upgrading the driver without unpicking the Windows registry.

      Re: Wireless slow

Hi i bought a laptop yesterday and have connected wirelessly to the sly router, but having slower speeds. My PC connected to the router by ethernet has 15mbps while the wireless connection is giving like 0.8mbps. I downloaded the TCP optimizer and when i try to apply optimal settings, windows vista doesnt allow me to apparantly because only an administrator can change these settings. I am the only user of the laptop and am set as the administrator. How can I get round this problem? any help is much appreciated!!

Have you tried right clicking on the optimiser file and selecting run as administrator?

      Re: Wireless slow

Stick with it people love to slate microsoft and in particular Vista. I have found it to be fine and only had a couple of bits of software I haven't been able to run (which have now had patches released to allow you to use them with vista).
