      wireless without ethernet connection

i need to move my pc back into another room where it was used wireless. my problem is that now i am with sky broadband it seems only to work with this router and needs the ethernet cable plugged in. previously i was with tiscali and used the same router from netgear and it worked fine with just the netgear adapter plugged into a USB port. i have configured the adapter to sky router but nothing without the ethernet cable. can anyone help, i dont want to pay BT to fit an additional socket.

      cheers mick3631.

      Re: wireless without ethernet connection

Put simply, you can only use the Sky router. Presumably your previous router was wireless and the wireless adapter worked with that. You say you have changed the settings in the adapter to match the router but it doesn't work.

I would suggest you alter the settings in the router (see help files on the Sky CD on how to access the router's user interface via Internet Explorer).
Try disabling wireless encryption in the router and in the adapter. If you can then connect successfully you need to work out what may have been wrong with your settings in the adapter before, then reapply encryption.
