      Wireless Broadband With Sky

Hi all, going to be new to Sky very soon and was wondering.

I will be going for SKY BB Max, and the Sky router I receive will be used as simply a modem, and Wi-Fi device for the Nintendo DS and other such things.

However, the wireless signal of this Sky Broadband Modem/Router won't pick up the PS3.

So without having to move the PS3, what can I do to get a wireless connection to the PS3.

Btw, I only have one computer.

      Simple Move the router!!

But seriously im not sure if you can get a signal booster for the sky router, you could always get a better router and extract your password etc from sky router.

      Re: Wireless Broadband With Sky

But does the router have to be connected to the PC in order to give a wireless signal to my PS3?

Or could I simply just whack the router into the telephone point in the bedroom and the router would emit wireless broadband signals to the PS3 without any connection to the PC?

No it doesnt need to be connected but, you would need the pc connected to the router to set up port forwarding for the ps3 if you have Upnp turned off on the router. (after correct ports are open it wouldnt need to be connected to the pc to use it for ps3).

Also if the bedroom phone socket is close enough to the ps3 to use a wired connection that would be better for gaming or so I have heard.

Fingers crossed your extention wiring is good!!

      Re: Wireless Broadband With Sky

      I see.

So what you are saying is.

First find out what ports need to be opened for PS3 online and connect your router to the PC in order to open these ports.

      Once this is done.

I can move the router upstairs to the telephone point, where it could be wired to the Playstation 3 using a crossover or straight through cable, as the router has then been pre-configured to allow access to the PS3. (Yet the router would still have no connection to the PC).

The only way that my PC could get an internet connection then would be wireless from the Sky Router as it is wireless enabled.

      IS that right.

Chances are your PS3 will simply work on the router's default settings as long as it can pick up the wireless network.
