Can't connect laptops to the wireless

Okay, I have been away from home for 4 months , travelling and my brother said that when they got the router the wireless didn't work so he had to hook up via cable. I thought he was being dumb (and maybe I am too) but I am trying to connect my laptop to the Netgear router, i enter in the right WPA key and everything and it does not connect. I am using the in built wireless of the laptop, it is a centrino. Given the router a few reboots but no luck. It does see the network but it just cannot connect to it. My laptop is up-to-date and can do WPA keys.

I had the Netgear DG834G before the Sky Branded one which I presume is a better model.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think I would start by turning off encryption temporarily and see if you can connect. Also scan for any neighbouring wirelss networks and, if any, switch to a channel 6 stops away from the strongest. Relocate cordless phone base station, video sender etc.

Make sure your using the same type of encryption on both machines....ie WPA and ensure you have typed the code in correctly as its case sensitive.
Also check within the router setup ( 192.168.0.1 ) that there isn't a station access list enabled. ( just an idea )
