      Wireless Security Help

I have been running my router using WPA-PSK, and all has been 100% fine.

Now I got myself a Netgear Wireless Digital Music Player to plug into my sound system to stream music to. However, it supports only WEP.

So, I changed my laptop and the router to use WEP. However, now the wireless connection between my laptop and the router (and the MP101) keep dropping every few minutes, and then I have to basically reboot the router, change back to WPA-PSK, and then it works. But not with the MP101.

Now, I have disabled security, and it's working fine. But, that's slightly unsafe. I have MAC address filtering, but ... why does my WEP setting keep dropping the connection??

did u reconnect to the wireless network using WEP? sounds obvious but you'll have to change the connection settings as they'd still be using WPA

EDIT: yes u did, ignore me

I did reboot the router, if that's what you mean. I can't understand my both connected devices just keep dropping, and then are unable to reconnect.

      Re: Wireless Security Help

try changing the channel of the wireless in the router settings, default is on 11 but try 6 or something and see if that does anything?

what i meant before about reconnecting the network was to rescan the network from your PC but I guess u already did that so ignore that point!!

      Re: Wireless Security Help

Very strange solution. Short coming with the router?
Anyway, I asked Netgear for help, and got a reply.

Instead of using a key phrase, and then generating the keys on the router, I manually typed in my own Key1. On my laptop and the MP101, I manually entered the key, and - it's working 100% now. No drops.

Interesting.. I'm using 64bit. Can use 128, but don'y want to break it when it's working.
