Exclamation Linksys WUSB54GS Adapter Wont Connect To Sky Router

The Linksys WUSB54GS adapter works, i can connect to unsecured networks and it worked perfectly with my previous Linksys WRT54GS Cable Router. However it doesnt even register the Belkin Sky Router is there. What can i do, is it compatible? or do i need to tinker with the router/adapter settings?

      Any Help Would Be Appreciated
      Thanks.
      Scott

Re: Linksys WUSB54GS Adapter Wont Connect To Sky Router

Probably the usual issues with encryption. Apply the passphrase supplied by Sky (copy of it on the base/side of the router) to you wireless adapter's encryption interface. If that doesn't work you need to link to the router by ethernet cable and temporarily disable encryption and check that wireless is ON -- it is by default, but check. If you can then link wirelessly go back into the router and copy down the HEX code produced by the passphrase. Apply the HEX code to the wireless adapter's encryption interface (instead of the passphrase).

If no success, consider reception range, interference from a neighbouring network on the same or nearby channel, interference from cordless phone and video sender etc.

      Thanks for the help.
      Ill try just that.
Its strange. The adapter works on its own with other networks that i persume are alot further away.
The adpater doesnt even register the sky betwork being there. Its like its not sending out the signal however the light is on. Its not an issue of connecting to the router/adapter. Its finding it.

This is the second sky router, the first one didnt turn on!

Re: Linksys WUSB54GS Adapter Wont Connect To Sky Router

Have you tried changing the wireless channel on the router?

I had this problem, although the router always showed up in "available networks", with an "excellent" signal strength I couldn't establish a reliable/working connection to it.

The Sky router I got came preset to channel 1.

I changed the router to a different channel and then everything worked perfectly.

It was odd because the two neighbouring routers I could see weren't using channels anywhere near the one I was. They were using channels 4 and 11. I switched my router to channel 6 and this was fine.

The router should be showing up in the list of networks, regardless of encrption.

Oh, you haven't told the router to not broadcast the SSID by any chance?

Obviously you'll need to connect through a wire to change settings on the router if your wirless link isn't working

Thank goodness I bought that cheap ethernet adapter card for my PC, I;d have been stuffed without it when the wireless didn;t work

your right about changing the channel. i had the same problem and changed from channel 1 to 10. all then ok.
it turns out my digital cordless phones were on channel 1 and also my video sender was on the same frequency. all now work just fine.

Re: Linksys WUSB54GS Adapter Wont Connect To Sky Router

      Mystery continues:

When i use the adapter to pick up my Sky internet through the Sky router(downstairs) on the upstairs computer it works fine. Packet flow perfect, loses a bit of speed due to reception and so forth but works fine. As soon as i turn on my xbox, the internet connection stops, packet flow stops, stops pinging the lot on the computer itself. Xbox live connection test, ip found then after that; everything fails.

When i use my neighbours wireless connection, xbox live works fine.

      HELP PLEASE?!

simply add your adapters mac address into your sky routers access list.
mac address can be found on ythe back of it
