Wireless problem - keeps dropping !!!

Bit vague I know but I cant remember the make of wireless card...

thought I'd try out wireless on my desktop PC last night and stick the router by the main BT point....

Anyway, connects OK to my router wirlessly (in fact, it says excellent) but it seems to constantly drop the link. For instance, I can ping 192.168.0.1 and it'll work fine for about 30 secs then drop out, then reconenct etc.

My laptop works fine when connected wirelessly so I dont think its the router at fault here.

Any ideas how to diagnose this problem?

Do you have a personal firewall (Sygate perhaps)
I had this firewall installed on my laptop and had the same symptoms - I switched the firewall off and hey presto - no more wireless drop outs.
I wouldn't recommend not having a firewall, but the XP one coupled with the router's firewall should be adequate for a 'normal' user.
I'm not an expert BTW - but this works for me!

Standard advice is switch off UPnP in router.

Is it on or off by default?

How does this affect wireless connections?

      UPnP is on by default.

I'm not sure why it affects wireless but the computer with the weaker wireless signal was suffering repeated disconnections on start up. The issue disappeared when UPnP was turned off.

      Turned UPnP off.

I'm getting problems with my laptop now as well !!!!

      Link is constantly dropping/reconnecting.
I'm doing a ping -t 192.168.0.1 and you can see it working for a few mins and then dropping, reconnecting.

      Any ideas?

Re: Wireless problem - keeps dropping !!!

I've got exactly the same problem by the sounds of it. I generally get pings of 1/2 ms and then a time out every so often and occasionally a 35ms or 106ms response. If I repair my connection it seems to fix itself temporarily. My browsing is fine but I have problems downloading. It almost seems like if too much information is being exchanged between the router and my pc the connection crashes and needs to be reset.
