802.11b adapter won't connect to Sky router

I'm testing A Netgear MA101 802.11b USB wireless adapter with the latest driver and the adapter's wireless utility (rather than WZC).

It happily connects to my bench-test Zoom 802.11b router with or without WEP 64bit encryption enabled.

But the Netgear MA101 will NOT connect to the Sky DG834GT with or without encryption. The router is scanned successfully using Netstumbler. It shows up in the Boingo connector software -- but the connection times out.

I normally connect to the DG834GT via an old Admtech 802.11b wireless adapter using WEP 64bit encryption.

I can connect to the DB834GT with a Zoom 802.11b USB wireless adapter and with a couple of Netgear 802.11g wireless adapters

Re: 802.11b adapter won't connect to Sky router

Apparently this problem has affected others -- like a guy whose 11b wireless laptop had worked fine with an earlier Netgear 11g router but couldn't connect to a current Netgear model.

According to Netgear's forum moderator, the solution is to switch wireless modes from b&g to b-only.

The Netgear manual shows that this is possible with the standard DB834GT.

Sky's firmware, however, omits the b-only setting.

Have a feeling this model MA101 was causing me all sorts of problems. Have taken it from the loop by becoming partially wired and everything is fantastic. Link to my thread here

Wish I could offer more help.

Had I known you had the MA101.......anyway, it looks like you solved the problem.

I'm going to get hold of a non-Sky DG834GT and see if the little beggar will connect to that.

Sorry Fihart, I realise the mistake.
