      Another "wireless not working" query

      OK, I've done everything!

I opsted on another post but don't want to hijac the post so I'll start my own...

When check my wireless connection I get a box that says:

"Wireless Network Connection is now connected.

      Connected to: SKYXXXXX
      Signal Strength: Excellent".

Also, when I view the wireless connection via network connections activity shows 1,818 sent and 1,577 recieved.

Also pinged my IP address and 4 pachets sent and 4 packets recieved.

However, when I disconnect the router cable from laptop and try and connect to internet I am unable to connect!!

      I've reinstaled the Sky software.

      Thanks.

Have you applied the WPA encryption passphrase to the wireless adapter's interface ? The code (8 alphanumeric characters as I recall) will have been supplied to you by Sky.

Sounds to me like you havent set the network to use wireless and it still wants to use the wired connection to connect to internet.
Try running wireless network wizard not sure what its correct name is, but you need to make your pc re-route via the wireless and this is the easiest way to do it.

Don't recall getting this. I have a WPA key from another site 192. something.

No, the 192 thing is what you type in the address bar of Internet Explorer to access the Sky/Netgear router's user interface -- it's 192.168.0.1 If you're connected to the router (by ethernet cable if the wireless isn't working) you'll be greeted by a login screen. The User is admin Password is sky.

The WPA key is an eight character alphanumeric which matches the encryption settings already put in the router by Sky. Without it you can't access the router by wireless -- unless you first go in by etherent cable (as described above) and reset the encryption passphrase to one of your choice.

      I've reset via 192.168.0.1.

I'm showing as connected but can't access wirlessley.

Why can I Ping my wirelss IP address and have it showing as connected but not connect wirelessly?

I'm sure I'm doing something very basic wrong.

      Thanks.

OK. I can ping via DOS but not via 192.168.0.1 (in diagnostics)!!
