      Wireless Range from Router

      Hi there all

I have moved from Telewest and a Netgear Wireless router to Sky BB Max with their "lovely" Netgear router.

All is ok on ethernet connected desktop and laptop is fine connected wirelessly within 10-12 feet. Once over 12 feet or so I lose the connection.

I have tried the following, to no avail:

      - Changed channel and SSID
      - Switched off UPNP
      - Rebooted router

Anyone got any clues as it is pretty annoying. Also can't get my wii to connect to it now either so no online Tiger Woods!!!!!!

      Thanks in advance guys.

      Andy

      Re: Wireless Range from Router

Presumably the wireless worked with the old router. On our system the Sky unit does not seem significantly worse on wireless than other basic Netgear models.

Most laptops with built in wireless aren't too great compared to PCI, PCMCIA or even USB adapters.

You've done most of the usual steps but you might try downloading NetStumbler (it's freeware) which seems more sensitive than most wireless adapter site survey utilities and shows interference and noise. It may spot some neighbouring network on a frequency too near you. In which case try to move 6 stops away.

Also turn off or relocate cordless phone and base station, mobiles, video senders etc.

Angry Re: Wireless Range from Router

      Thanks for the response.

My old Netgear (had for nearly 2 years) was fine, no issues with distance, laptop connection, connection dropping - nowt.

I've tried netstumbler, not working.........will look into it.

      Anyone else......
